If you have a strong stomach, read "Buried Secrets" by Edward Humes. He is Adolfo Constanzo, who was a practitioner of Palo Mayombe, which is a form of Santeria. Basically Costanzo was a drug dealer in Mexico that uses human sacrifice in their rituals of Palo.

His reputation as a pastor causes of Palo powerful and evil to his followers, his enemies and the police for fear of him and was very rich from their drug trafficking business.

His downfall began when he was kidnapped and ritually murdered an American student, spring break in Matamoros, Mexico in 1988. The U.S. DEA and the FBI became involved and was eventually tracked down, but I will not tell the whole story.

Overview of Palo Mayombe, Costanzo practices and their effect on humans is absolutely fascinating, but often grotesque. But certainly one of those books that you can not once you start it.
